Children come to school ‘worn out’ from computer games

Young children are spending so long playing computer games in their bedrooms that they arrive at primary school worn out and unable to learn, some teachers say. Playing games on computers, PlayStations, an Xbox or devices such as a DS could also inhibit a child’s social development and mean they get too little physical exercise, they say.

Teachers will debate a call for legislation to limit the sale or use of computer games at a conference next week of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, the smallest and most moderate of the main classroom unions. A motion has been put forward by a primary school teacher, Alison Sherratt, who teaches at Riddlesden St Mary’s Church of England school in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
