Listeners to Jazz FM are usually more likely to hear the likes of Louis Armstrong

Jazz FM broadcast porn over airwaves after leaving sound fader up.

Listeners tuning in to the Funky Sensation show with Mike Vitti on Jazz FM heard swearing and ”clearly audible sounds of sexual activity” for around five minutes.

Ofcom’s report said a member of station staff ”opened a personal email on the studio computer and accessed a weblink containing pornographic content; but by mistake left the sound fader linked to this computer open on the broadcast console. This resulted in the broadcast of the audio of the pornographic content.”

The adult soundtrack could be heard in the background to the music as well as during adverts on the show.

Three listeners complained to Ofcom after the content was broadcast from 7.15pm for around five minutes during the pre-recorded show, on February 18, before a station engineer pulled the plug on the feed.

The station issued an apology on its website and on social networks shortly afterwards and during the same show a week later.

It told the watchdog that ”the individual who inadvertently caused the material to be broadcast has now left Jazz FM”.

Ofcom concluded the station had breached the rules on generally accepted standards.

The station has an average weekly audience of about 500,000 and covers many jazz genres, including funky, Latin and big band.

Vitti’s Funky Sensations show features such artists as Rick James, Teddy Pendergrass, George Duke, Booker T and Roy Ayers.
